Richard Dawkins

British evolutionary biologist, zoologist, and science communicator known for his groundbreaking work on evolution and genetics. An emeritus fellow of New College, Oxford, Dawkins held the first Simonyi Professor for the Public Understanding of Science position from 1995 to 2008. He is the author of The Selfish Gene, published in 1976, which introduced the gene-centered view of evolution and popularized the concept of the meme. His work has earned numerous academic and writing awards, including the 2005 Shakespeare Prize and 2006 Lewis Thomas Prize.
