Ashanti Shequoiya Douglas is an American R&B singer, songwriter, and actress from the United States. She was discovered as a teenager by record producer Irv Gotti and signed with Murder Inc. Records, an imprint of Def Jam Recordings, in 2002. That year, she gained prominence through guest appearances on Fat Joe's "What's Luv?" and Ja Rule's "Always on Time," both major chart hits. Her 2002 debut single "Foolish" made her the first female artist to simultaneously occupy the top two positions on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Her music spans contemporary R&B, hip hop soul, neo soul, and soul genres.
