Candlemass

Candlemass is a Swedish epic doom metal band formed in Stockholm in 1984 by bassist and main songwriter Leif Edling. Recognized as one of the defining architects of epic doom metal alongside Saint Vitus and Trouble, the band created the genre through their 1986 debut album Epicus Doomicus Metallicus. Their monumental sound combines slow, crushing riffs with grand operatic vocals and darkly majestic compositions. With a catalog spanning from Nightfall and Ancient Dreams through modern releases like The Door to Doom and Sweet Evil Sun, Candlemass has established an enduring global legacy, earning Swedish Grammis Awards and a Grammy nomination. The current lineup features bassist Leif Edling, original vocalist Johan Lanquist, guitarists Mats Bjorkman and Lars Johansson, and drummer Jan Lind.
