About the event
Geordie Greep, the celebrated frontman of Black Midi, brings his debut solo album The New Sound to Australian stages. The New Sound is a sprawling, experimental take on alternative pop featuring over thirty session musicians recorded across two continents, including Brazil with local players unfamiliar with Greep's prior work. The album moves unpredictably, with the instrumental title track shifting between jazz-funk and theatrical score, while songs swing from whispers to full-band explosions. Drawing influences from Frank Zappa, Frank Sinatra, and Scott Walker, the record resists settling into one place. Lyrically, Greep presents rotating characters in increasingly strange scenarios within worlds of cafes, bars, and rented spaces where fantasy and reality blur.
