Mental As Anything

Mental As Anything is an Australian new wave and pop rock band formed in Sydney in 1976. The group's most popular line-up featured Martin Plaza on vocals and guitar, Reg Mombassa on lead guitar and vocals, Peter O'Doherty on bass guitar and vocals, Wayne de Lisle on drums, and Andrew Smith on vocals, keyboards and harmonica. Known for their infectious melodies and sharp wit, the band generated original hit songs and achieved chart success with covers of Roy Orbison, Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry and Wreckless Eric. Inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame, Mental As Anything has become an enduring fixture in Australia's cultural and musical history. The band is reuniting in 2026 for their 50th anniversary tour, their first performances together in 25 years, with original founding members O'Doherty and Mombassa leading a new lineup.
