Scottish singer-songwriter, guitarist, and record producer who achieved major success in the 1970s and 1980s with bands including Slik, Thin Lizzy, Rich Kids, Visage, and notably as second bandleader of Ultravox, guiding them to high chart positions. In 1984, he co-wrote and produced the charity single 'Do They Know It's Christmas?' for Band Aid, which he organised with Bob Geldof. The single became the second-highest-selling single in UK chart history with 3.7 million copies sold at first release. He also organised Live Aid and Live 8 with Geldof and serves as an ambassador for Save the Children. His work spans art pop, new wave, new romantic, synthpop, and rock genres.
