The Cruel Sea are an Australian indie rock band from Sydney formed in late 1987. Originally an instrumental ensemble, they gained prominence after vocalist Tex Perkins joined the group. The band's core lineup has featured Jim Elliott on drums, Ken Gormly on bass guitar, Dan Rumour on guitar, and James Cruickshank on guitar and keyboards. Between 1990 and 2001, they released six studio albums, three of which achieved platinum certification from ARIA. The group is recognized for multiple hit songs including Better Get A Lawyer, The Honeymoon Is Over, and This Is Not The Way Home. They have won eight ARIA Music Awards, with five awards received in 1994 related to The Honeymoon Is Over album. Beyond their recorded work, their music has been featured prominently in Australian television, including the instrumental track Reckless Eyeballin' as the theme for the police drama Blue Heelers. The band continues to perform their iconic catalogue live.
